Area 33 – Sunday Lunch – November 22nd - The White Horse, Pleshey |
|
After much ado about whether The White Horse, Pleshey was closing or opening, eight Area 33 members eventually ventured into deepest Essex on a wild and windy Sunday morning.
Eric and Linda arrived late as a result of a mercy mission having to be accomplished; to deliver a large steamer to our daughter in which to cook the Christmas pud! |

However, Reg & Ronnie, Bernie & Tina and Terry & Caroline were all sipping aperitifs in the cosy bar as we arrived. It was fortunate that we were all safely inside as at that moment the sky’s opened and it deluged down! The chalk board menu offered many favourites such as Skate, Liver & Bacon and Steak & Ale Pie plus Sunday roasts and Rib Eye steaks; they all sounded tempting and final selections took some time!

The restaurant area was quite cosy from which we looked out onto the garden and watched a green woodpecker nibbling insects from the lawn. Having enjoyed our various starters including Crispy Fried Prawns, Smoked Salmon Timbale and a huge portion of Crispy Mushrooms with dip; they were followed by large portions of Roast Beef, Roast Pork, Liver & Bacon and Steak & Chips. Tina just had to order that extra portion of chips on the side but eventually relied on us all to help finish them! The Roast Beef was not very tender and the Crispy Prawns overcooked, but on average the meal was fine. A couple of bottles of decent house wine helped while away the afternoon on this, our last for the year, Sunday lunch for Area 33. Let’s look forward to some good venues for Lunch next year, maybe with more Members attending and some more recommendations to visit. See you next year! Eric Hoile |
