Area 33 – Sunday Lunch - The Maybush, Waldringfield

As predicted, Sunday turned out to be another fine sunny day with the rain clouds drifting northward; did the weather men get it right or was it just chance?
Although at club night we only had a show of hands for eight attendees, during the week another four telephoned to be included; this resulted in six couples arriving at The Maybush in gleaming Jaguars glinting in the morning sun.

It was great to see Alan & Margaret and Keith & Pam in E type roadsters also back from numerous vacations (!) were Reg & Ronnie plus Bernie & Tina and Eric & Linda all in

XK’s and Terry & Caroline in their XJ.

The Maybush had managed to arrange our table for twelve which was just as well as the whole place, including outside tables, were all occupied by 12.30; in fact one customer tried to enter through the locked windows behind Margaret to sit at our table! I think Bernie was prepared to poke him in the eye following his previous demonstrations to us!

The menu and our selections are just too large to include here with seafood, steaks, veggie options and daily specials to tempt us. Most of us made the mistake of ordering starters and main courses; we shouldn’t have as the plates are at least 15ins diameter and “fully loaded”.

Tina needed guidance on eating etiquette trying to eat soup with a fork; Eric & Bernie said the proppa way was to use the knife whilst Margaret got the waitress all hot and bothered by rejecting two fish & chip lunches until her correct order of Shingle Street Cod arrived. I understand Alan later redressed his ordering error by offering to take her to Harrods for Dinner later in the month! Of course, some of us had cholesterol rich puds to finish, with “Three Pud” Terry having B&B pudding with custard and cream!

After lunch we removed to the terrace where Keith, back from the Med., gave us his experiences on sailing whilst Reg, back from Florida, wondered how many mahi-mahis could be caught in the river Deben. Coffee followed as we savoured the very pleasant atmosphere, sun, surroundings and company.
See you next time.
