JDC Area 33 – May 27th 2007 - The Fox at Little Wratting
|
This was the second of our new Sunday Lunch venues for 2007 and is from the Spice Group which includes the previously enjoyed Cricketers Arms at Rickling Green. Due to really atrocious weather only a hardy few braved the elements to journey to the Cambridge borders for a meal at The Fox in the delightfully sounding village of Little Wratting (no connection, evidently, to the past-time of rodent control officers).
The good people at the Fox had a major event on that evening but were quite happy to open their restaurant to us for an outstanding meal which eschewed the normal Sunday roast in favour of more subtle culinary delights – the Mulligatawny soup and the Chicken Caesar salad topped with a soft boiled egg were both a hit as was the Hand Raised Cheese and Onion pie to follow! As is customary with our Sunday lunches one can never leave without sampling the desserts which this time included a Michelin quality Crème Brulee and Sailor Jerry Rum Chocolate mousse! The quality of each course was superb and the restaurant Manager, Ross, had included wine in the menu enabling us to sit back and enjoy! I certainly believe we will be adding this venue to our Sunday Lunch list for 2008.
It was great to have Alan and Margaret back with us for lunch again, good to see you both.
Congratulations also to Jim Osborne who made the journey in his Series III XJ6; along with Eric in his XKR they were the only Area members to prise there pride and joys out of the garages in such dreadful weather for the trip.
Due to the excellent fare we had feasted for nearly four hours and the fact that the heavens were still in full flood the visit to Melford Hall for afternoon tea was unanimously cancelled.
It finally required a dash across the car park through the still inclement weather to our steeds and journey home.
Until the next time.
