Area 33 – Sunday Lunch March - The Cricketers, Bradwell on Sea

For once the weather favoured us – it neither rained nor blew cold, in fact almost a perfect spring day, just right for the March Sunday lunchtime run across the Essex marshes to the little hamlet of Bradwell-on-Sea.

Not much has changed in this part of the world; St Peter’s 7th century church still nestles near the sea wall although you have to gloss over the derelict WW2 fighter base nearby at Bradwell Bay and the even larger modern monument, the now decommissioned nuclear power station just round the headland.
Nothing daunted, a small band of Area 33 members headed for The Cricketers, a compact ale house, run by John and Valerie, which offered a choice of traditional pub fare with a difference, as one visitor found out – liver and bacon served in a suet pudding. The rest of us stuck to more staple fare such as Sunday roast and fish and chips. Desserts excelled with copious quantities of custard.

We all knew we should have walked the half mile to St Peter’s Church to maintain our health, but only Ron & Anita ventured forth, but in their car!.... whilst the rest of us took the highway home after a very pleasant afternoon lunch.
