As always, Harry was his attentive self as we sat in the lounge savouring pre lunch drinks; the three course lunch was under £13.00 so most went for starters as well as puds! Much of the conversation focused on flat batteries as both Terry & Eric had suffered with their new XK’s; battery drain through numerous electronic modules in the car after switch off is a major consideration. Valuable advice from Jaguar Technicians has now been put into practise and it hopefully has resolved all issues. Modern cars will continue taking current to keep various modules active unless told to shut down; so the advice is: · Always lock the car; even in the garage, as it informs the modules to shut down asap; not doing so leaves the car assuming a restart is anticipated and modules will take longer to shut down. · Bonded Bluetooth phones should be switched “Off-Bond” if the car is parked for long periods as it is possible that the car’s phone module may still receive calls! · Opening and closing doors and boot lids switches on interior lights and other systems but if the engine is not started that current take is not replenished. · Using a battery trickle charger is a good idea to ensure the battery is always topped up. However, having recognised these modern car foibles both Terry & Eric confirmed that this new range of XK’s delivered significantly better driving dynamics over the prior models in terms of steering precision, cornering ability, comfort, performance and looks; there’s no going back! Anyway, back to lunch; having consumed excellent starters and mains served with more than ample vegetables it was time for puddings. Whilst maple syrup waffles and ice cream and cherry sponge & custard sufficed some, Ron just had to fulfil his profiterole appetite despite the menu showing them at £10.00 a time!! Fortunately the final bill had overlooked this error and indigestion was avoided by all! This was our last Sunday lunch run of 2010 so we were fortunate to have bright weather throughout despite a chilly temperature for the run home. See you next year! Eric |
