Area 33 – Sunday Lunch - Mar 30 – The Cricketers Arms, Rickling Green

The Cricketers Arms overlooks the beautifully kept cricket green and is a traditional inn boasting good food and drink with friendly hospitality.
This was the third year that the JDC Area 33 Sunday Lunch group has visited this venue having previously fully agreed with their hospitality boast.

As we arrived we observed the groundsman tending the cricket ground in preparation for the summer season.

Cricket has been played on Rickling Green since about 1850, photos of which can be seen in the one remaining village pub, namely The Cricketers Arms.

However, cricket was not high on our menu today as we sipped aperitifs in the bar and perused the ample menu.

Ten Area 33 members, namely Anthea & Tony; Margaret & Alan; Ronnie & Reg; Tina & Bernie and Linda & Eric, were escorted to the private dining room containing a nicely laid round table awaiting our pleasure.

Bernie had already been warned about choosing the highest priced dish at last months Lunch, but what do you know he does it again, with Lobster Risotto! Other temping starters included Tempura of Shrimps, Pan Fried Asparagus and Portobello mushrooms served with grilled goat’s cheese, delicious!
Main courses followed including Pan fried Sea Bass with a very piquant orange sauce, Duck breast on bubble & squeak, Roast Lamb, Roast Beef and Butternut squash Risotto.

All proved totally delicious with ten very clean plates afterwards to prove it. Needless to say, those who had recently observed Lent (and those who hadn’t!) were also able to squeeze in some Sticky Toffee pud, Cream Brulee or Apple Crumble for dessert.

Coffee followed, although orders for black coffee, white coffee, coffee with milk, coffee without milk and breakfast tea, certainly got the group and the waiter thoroughly confused; must have been the wine!

The sun continued to shine as we arranged our cars for the photo-shoot; Reg, Bernie and Eric lining up their XK’s, Alan apologising for bringing his Rolls; but Tony & Anthea took the prize with their very clean ’61 E type.

Despite earlier grumbles about having one hour less sleep, the benefit of summertime was realised as we drove home in sunlight and blue skies after another fine Sunday Lunch. Thanks to all who attended.

PS. Reg & Ronnie get a mention this time, apologies for missing you in the Feb report.
PPS. No apologies for mentioning Bernie again!
