Area 33 – Sunday Lunch – April 26th - The Chequers, Goldhanger |
|
|
With so many events on
this special day it was clearly going to be difficult to choose
which one to support. There was the Chelmer Valley Classic Car Show at Hylands Park; the Jaguar World London to Brighton Jaguar Run and it was also the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs “Drive It Day”; so whatever one chose to do it was certainly going be a Jaguar day out! But, as it was also my birthday good eating was necessarily high on the agenda and so the Chequers at Goldhanger, a new Area 33 Sunday Lunch venue, had won Linda and my vote! Eleven other like minded Jaguar Drivers’ also voted to attend and included Mike & Sue, Roger & Fred, Alan & Margaret, Terry & Veronica, Terry & Caroline and Larry. |
| It was a
glorious Sunday morning and en route we saw many other
“Drive it Day” participants; we followed for a time a very
smart bull nosed Morris unfortunately suffering from worn
piston rings or bad bore wear judging from the blue haze
emitting from it’s exhaust pipe and passed two nice Triumph
Stags both parked together with bonnets up!
We arrived last and just
managed to squeeze into the car park alongside Alan &
Margaret’s XK140; how rear end styling has changed in forty
two years! |
|
| An array of menu’s throughout the venue enticed one to eat to excess with Whole Baked Sea Bass or Moules on the fishy side or Paella, Cajun Chicken or Steak as other main course samples. However, the roast Lamb or Beef proved the most popular and with lashings of vegetables excellent value. Puds included White Chocolate Profiteroles, B&B pudding (which Two Pud Terry had with Cream and Ice Cream!) and Tiramisu, all proving irresistible to most of us! Weight Watchers courses start next week! |

Yes it is Alan,
claimed he’d forgotten his false teeth! Altogether the meal was excellent both in quality and value and likely to feature again next year. See you next time. Eric Hoile |
